HISTORY
Moisson Sud-Ouest (MSO), the Suroît Food Bank, was founded in 1989. It began when five members of the Valleyfield Poverty Roundtable came together with a shared commitment to take meaningful action in response to the growing poverty affecting communities across southwestern Quebec.
Today, Moisson Sud-Ouest, the Suroît Food Bank, helps meet the needs of people experiencing food insecurity throughout the Beauharnois-Salaberry, Vaudreuil-Soulanges, and Haut-Saint-Laurent RCMs.
Moisson Sud-Ouest is proud to be a member of the Food Banks of Quebec. (Banques alimentaires du Québec) and Food Banks Canada networks, ensuring best practices and ongoing support for our community. As a key partner in the community sector, Moisson Sud-Ouest actively participates in numerous committees and collaborative networks to better address local needs. Through its commitment, more than 80 community organizations across the region receive food free of charge to support their programs, providing thousands of meals to those who need them most.
MISSION
In a social context where many individuals and families struggle to access enough food each day, Moisson Sud-Ouest’s mission is to recover food from a wide network of suppliers and distribute it daily to accredited community organizations. These organizations, in turn, provide essential food assistance to vulnerable people throughout the region we serve.
“Moisson Sud-Ouest recovers food donations and redistributes them daily to more than 80 accredited community organizations, helping them fight hunger in our region.”
OUR VISION
Moisson Sud-Ouest envisions a future where no one goes hungry. Guided by the values of equity, integrity, transparency, and accountability, the organization is committed to strengthening food security across the region through responsible and sustainable action. By working collaboratively with its partners and embracing innovation, Moisson Sud-Ouest serves as a catalyst for community solidarity, expanding access to essential resources so that everyone can look toward the future with dignity and hope.
