HISTORY
Moisson Sud-Ouest (MSO), the food bank of the Suroît region in the Montérégie area, began its activities in 1989. Five citizens, member of the Valleyfield poverty consultation table, gathered to make a concrete gesture in response to the growing problems of worsening poverty of the Southwest population.
Today, Moisson Sud-Ouest, , continues to meet the needs of people who are experiencing difficult socioeconomic situations in the regional county municipalities (MRC) of Beauharnois-Salaberry, Haut-Saint-Laurent and Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
As a member of Quebec’s Food Banks network, Moisson Sud-Ouest benefits from the sharing of food supplies as well as a significant financial support since its inception. This invaluable support has enabled them to go through several years of precariousness.
MISSION
In a social context where individuals, families, and children do not have enough to eat daily, Moisson Sud-Ouest’s mission is to recover food from multiple suppliers, primarily located within its territory, and distribute it daily to over 80 community organizations. These organizations then work to alleviate hunger among some of the most vulnerable members of the population in the region we serve.
« Moisson Sud-Ouest collects food items and redistributes them daily to accredited organizations in order to alleviate hunger. »
OUR VISION
At Moisson Sud-Ouest, we aspire to build a community where everyone has access to healthy and sufficient food. By joining forces to nourish the vulnerable populations of our region, we help reduce inequalities and strengthen the social fabric. At the same time, we play a key role in reducing food waste by maximizing the value of surplus, transforming excess into opportunities to support those in greatest need. Together, we cultivate a more compassionate and sustainable future.
