Operating a food bank is expensive.
Every month, Moisson Sud-Ouest helps more than 15,500 people, over 35% of whom are children. To achieve this, it takes much more than just food: it requires resources, equipment, and a well-organized logistics system.
Between the food warehouse, the labor, and the vehicles needed to ensure distribution, the costs add up quickly.
- To operate year-round, it costs approximately:
- $400,000 to maintain the food warehouse
- $300,000 to pay the labor managing the warehouse
- $100,000 for vehicle maintenance
Major investments are needed to complete the renovations.
After its acquisition in 2023, the new building needs to be fully renovated to allow for food distribution activities while meeting the government’s MAPAQ standards. Some of the work has been completed, but there is still a long way to go.
